Domaine Christian Moreau

Père & Fils · Chablis

Since 1814

More than200years of history

In 1814 Jean-Joseph Moreau, a cooper from Montbard, opened a wine house in Chablis. Six generations later his family still works the same Grands Crus. In 2001 Christian and his son Fabien founded the domaine that now bears their name.

Our history

The Wines

One grape, read climat by climat

The whole domaine is planted with Chardonnay. From one wine to the next only the place changes: the slope, the aspect, the bank of the Serein. From Petit Chablis to the Grands Crus, each parcel is picked by hand and fermented in its own tank. Kimmeridgian marl, full of tiny fossil oysters, gives these wines their saline tension.

Visit the domaine

The winery stands in the heart of Chablis, at the foot of the Grands Crus. Beneath the Grange aux Dîmes, a vaulted seventeenth-century cellar hosts the tastings, from Petit Chablis up to Les Clos.

The Domaine

In the heart of Chablis, facing the Grands Crus

Since 2001 the winery has stood a short walk from the Grands Crus: 1,500 square metres, air-conditioned throughout, for the vats, bottling and storage. In town, the vaulted cellar of the Grange aux Dîmes faces the church and the statue of Saint Martin, the emblem of the domaine.

The Terroirs

Two banks, one grape

Chablis counts forty-seven climats. The domaine farms a handful of them, all close to the winery: the Grands Crus on the right bank of the Serein, Vaillon and Les Pargues on the left, and the Petit Chablis up on the plateaus.
